All of the online resources reported here have been thoroughly checked at the time of their listing. However, it is possible that, with the with the passage of time, many of the originally reported materials might have been removed from the Internet, or changed their online address, or varied the scope and quality of their contents.

"Based on the law regarding the awarding of academic degrees, article 8, the National Central Library (NCL) is the national depository library of theses and dissertations. Ever since the Ministry of Education [R.O.C/Taiwan - ed.] entrusted the NCL of this responsibility, the NCL has proceeded to put together original paper versions of theses and dissertations as well as preserve them and enable their access to our public readers. The NCL further developed theses and dissertations abstracts database, established online information file system, fulltext database, etc. in order to promote an integrated portal service of theses online information. [...]

The Electronic theses and dissertations system was established since 1994. Its main function is to enable the general public to search for theses and dissertations data including abstracts, electronic fulltexts display as well as print out of doctoral dissertations fulltext image. It also provides graduate students nationwide to key in online data including the possibility to key in their respective theses data, uploading of electronic fulltexts, downloading authorization letter and the respective approval functions and procedures of particular schools and departments.

In 2004, there was an increased frequency of usage. In order to provide a better service, the NCL has renovated the main system and increased new functions. Below are the characteristics of the functions: 1. Analysis of search results: provides the user to understand search results as to the distribution situation according to graduation year, departments, subject matter. 2. Statistics of citation: provides the present citation frequency of the theses and dissertations within the system. 3. Reference materials links: reference material is linked to related theses within the system. 4. Main subject browsing: Browsing of theses information according to personal interest of the category. 5. Personalized Services: Provides common users information storage strategies, establish personal bibliography list, download authorized full text electronic theses and dissertations files and other services. Libraries of colleges and universities in the country have the responsibilities to preserve their respective theses and dissertations. [... For the distributed data input] the National Central Library [provides an] online key in system. At present [i.e. in 2005] more than 60% of educational institutions participate."
